Wolf Print, Isle Royale (Siskwit Bay) | [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ] |
We heard wolf howls and moose bugles at about 2:00 am. Hiking along the shoreline of Siskwit Bay the next morning we saw a jumble of prints -- adult moose, calf, and one or two wolves. This was the clearest wolf print. There was no sign of a struggle, apparently the cow and calf got away this time. Walking carefully. | | Posted Aug 7, 2011 2:06 pm |

I had a Mtn lion with four toes on one foot around my place. | | Posted Aug 7, 2011 2:21 pm |

Hasn't voted | There are no lions on Isle Royale. Nor coyotes. So I feel confident about the identification. (Sometimes people bring domestic dogs to the island illegally but the intermixing with moose prints, with no shoe/boot prints, makes that very unlikely.)
They were about the same size as my Alaskan malamute's prints. But he's 125 lbs, bigger than the local wolves. | | Posted Aug 7, 2011 5:27 pm |
