Wrangells???

Wrangells???

Alaska is known for many things but sunny weather is not one of them. On the way home on a commercial airliner there were breaks in the clouds over what I believe to be the Saint Elias Mountains and/or Kluane National Park and Reserve. April 2009. If anyone recognizes this view, please let know!

I flew over Alaska four times...

The "white" one on the left looks a lot like
Mount Fairweather.

I always wondered WHY it was called Fair-Weather; SOMEBODY definitely had a
profound sense of humor! : ))

Thanks

I have been there three times now. I have a 33% "clear rate". I'll check on the Fair Weather possibility.

It is Mount Steele...

...and the same photo is elsewhere in the collection, correctly marked. In 1990, 3 friends and I approached from Mount Walsh, out of view, up the nice glacier from the right (E), over the ~4300m sub-peak (just right of center) to our final camp close to the main peak. We had hoped to also summit Lucania (one ridge is in view, front left of picture) but had generally poor weather the whole 3 week trip -- running out of food before pick-up, actually!
