My friends Jason, Keith and myself scrambled this peak in conjunction with Little Baldy and Silver Star Mt. We didn't intend on anything but a fast trip to Silver Star and back, but I conned them into some extra peak bagging. We followed the obvious line up the N Ridge from the Bluff Mt Trail (Chinook Trail). It was an easy scramble as long as we kept to the left, and the views were awesome. The view into the Upper Washougal drainage is great, and it really is a relatively untouched area (by SW WA standards). When we got to the top, we realized that the trip down to the saddle was a NASTY bushwack, so we made the mistake of "glissading" down the snow slope through the heavy stand of trees on the West side. The snow got pretty steep, and was fairly crusty, and we ended up in some even nastier devils club! We ran into a fellow in the trees who claimed he had abandoned his tent there during a snowstorm the previous elk season. We didn't quite believe his story, due to the plethora of mining activity on the S Side of the mountain, so we left the guy and continued on to Little Baldy. My father and one of hid friends were in the Skamania Mines area on the S side of Bluff Mt when a fellow in a travel trailer pulled a gun on them, so that story was fresh in our minds. I'm in the Army now, and needless to say am not in SW WA anymore, but I hope to get back home and do this one again. I highly recommend it.
