What a beautiful shot Vid!

I'm dreaming for too long now to take a winter walk through the 7 lakes valley but that would probably be suicide without tour skis, unless snow is hard packed :-) So, skis first... What is your experience with snow there Vid? Is it most of the time soft (falling through till knees is what I consider soft, anything deeper is suicide on such distances) or it transforms during the winter?

Hey, Sasa! This picture was long neglected in my collection of dias because of an older, similar picture (it's on your Triglav page and, linked, also on this page). But it's fine, only Zelnarica doesn't have so much snow.

Mountaineering in Julian Alps in winter conditions is of course possible. It's best in April, May, if you happen to have some cold days. Then snow is allways packed, in the morning like a stone. It depends then only, when it softens. Now it's a bit too early (was too warm). But next first cold days will be ideal. Komarca is probably already snow-free, and above it's still like in winter. For skiing or hiking. And winter rooms on Prehodavci and Dolic are really nice - for 15+ people. Just let me know when you decide :-)

That other photo of Zelnarica is also great! But I like this one more because Krn is so clear and looks so close.

Who knows Vid, maybe this April I could come to see 7 lakes valley, but I won't promise :-) I would have done it already but what worries me is that valley is very long so if you are not lucky to have ideal hard snow you can kiss it goodbye. Who could reach Prehodavci in soft snow without skis, no way! If I could hit ideal snow it wouldn't be a problem to climb Kanjavec also. When snow is good for crampons it is certainly easier to walk than in the summer because all the rock is covered, you can be fast. But, it is hard to hit such conditions from this distance :-)
