"Got tight last night on absinthe and did knife tricks. Great success shooting the knife into the piano. The woodworms are so bad and eat hell out of all furniture that you can always claim the woodworms did it."

January HikeWith a few hours to kill before I had to return to St. George to pick up the wife and kids from school, I decided to give this Mesa a go, even though it had rained during the night. Ended up having more of an adventure than I anticipated. There was very little snow, but the rock was wet and a little icy in places. As a consequence, I had to use game/social trails in the trees a little more than I wanted. So I ended up scrambling up seriously muddy slopes and trails. As I hiked/slid/scrambled to the saddle, the cloud cover made me think I wasn't going to get much in the way of views, but, as I reached the promontory at the far end, the clouds cleared and I was gifted a sublime, phenomenal view, which made the muddy scramble well worth it. It will be fun to come back and do this again when things are drier.

East gullyI didn't do any homework on this as the trip was a last minute decision. I was envisioning a short, slickrock scramble but it's a short hike with limited views on mostly steep dirt. Game trails make it pretty easy, one of the easiest summits in Zion.

Not much funA quick hike up very steep dirt to a treed plateau. Disapointing views compared to many of the other summits in Zion.

Beautiful and FunMy 11 year old son Evan and I reached the summit via the eastern gully and saddle. Still some snow packed in places. Evan found it a fun challenge. The views from the saddle were great. We were stymied in getting to the northern viewpoint however.

East ColA couple years ago with a buddy. Our 4th Zion NP peak of the day. Picked up a little poison ivy along the way.

East SideCheckerboard Mesa on April Fools Day. The gully was full of trees and other debris. Good view of the east side of Zion.
