Daogou is a knife edged rock peak in southwestern China. Some mountaineer attempted to climb it . Daogou is part of the Four Girls (Siguniang) Mountains, a beautiful Nature Reserve with many sharp rock peaks, lakes and marshes. There are two peaks in the Daogou. It is the East Peak (5466 m) and the West Peak (5422 m). The East Peak is the highest peak. First ascent is 10/13/2005 by Joe Puryear, Chad Kellogg and Stoney Rechard. East Peak is the left side of the photo in the foreground, and West Peak is the right side. According to the "American Alpine Journal 2009 P351", Kester Brown and Vaughn Thomas made first ascent to the Daogou-West 5422m in 2006. Glaciers shaped the area in a distant past. The highest peak in the region is Four Girls Mountain itself, reaching up to 6250m. The area is known for it’s abundance of blooming flowers and alpine plants. Also, a lot of medicinal herbs can be found. The Four Girls region is at the east end of the Tibetan cultural sphere. Many Tibetans live in this area for more than 1000 years. The main living basis is pasturage and agriculture. |
