Route Climbed: Elk Meadows - Mt. Holly Date Climbed: May 2000
Left from the main road and followed an old trail through logging slash. Reached Mt. Holly from the south and followed the ridge over to Delano. Also hit Lake Peak the same trip (by accident)
Route Climbed: cross country from west Date Climbed: 10-26-03
After having climbed Wheeler and Charleston Peaks in Nevada in the past couple of days, this was another chance to get a 12000 foot peak that I knew very little about. I had studied the maps and the description in a book called "High in Utah" (refers to the mountains of course) and a few trip reports found at www.cohp.org
It was interesting to park the car at a spot on the side of a rough forest service road at 10400 foot elevation and using map, compass and GPS, head off towards what I thought would be the peak. I hit a false summit first but it was fun scrambling in a few places and then coming up close to a band of mountain goats.
The peak itself was a great viewpoint of the interesting topography that makes up the surrounding countryside. Amazing colors. A good chance to get some exercise and a 12000 peak in on the otherwise long drive from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City.
