Grandview Peak
June 25
The main goal for this trip was to climb Granview Peak since it had been on my list for decades, but I had planned to climb other peaks as well.
I drove south from Skyline Drive, but the road was soon blocked by snowdrifts (about 8000 feet) so I didn't make it that far. I walked south along the road (with several snowdrifts along the way to near the north side of Peak 8722, where I dropped my pack and set up camp. After camp was set off I headed south to the end of the road.
The trail up the Sessions Mountains ridge was buried in snow and hard to find so I made my way up the snow to the summit of Sessions Mountains West without a trail. The skies were clear and the views were great. I then climbed down the the saddle to the east and followed the trail to near Sessions Mountains East and climbed that too before heading for Grandview Peak. The last part of the ridge to the summit was a bit challenging with the steep snow, but the views from the top were worth it.
The climb took longer than expected since all the snow slowed me down and it was pretty late by the time I got back to camp.
June 26
In the morning, I climbed Peak 8722 next to camp. I then packed up camp and headed north towards where I parked the car. Along the way I climbed Jeep BM as well. It sure had a lot of false summits for such a seemingly small peak!

Big Mountain to Grandview
Started at Big Mountain Pass and ended at Affleck Park. Cold, windy, stormy day. Grandview was in the clouds when we ascended but they blew away by the time we decided to descend. Great hidden gem! Little snow for how late in the season we hiked it.
Great early morning views from the summit. Saw a rattlesnake up there. Did it as part of the Great Western Trail, 21 miles total and 5200ft of elevation gain

Nice (though hot!) from Big Mtn
Biked GWT from Big Mtn Pass to trail junction above City Creek Meadows, then hiked to summit. Total mileage around 9 mi each way, so 6 on bike, 6 on foot, then 6 on bike. Been procrastinating doing this one for years, and- somewhat to my surprise- really enjoyed it. Easy terrain, trail pretty much the whole way, never difficult, off-the-charts wildflowers. Less than 5% of the route is shaded, so it's a warm outing in June. This one would be real nice in late September/early October.

Via Big Mountain Pass
One heck of an adventure. Rode our mountain bikes just pass Swallow Rocks, then stashed them in the trees and hiked the rest of the way to the summit. What a grand view! 17.8 miles RT, 4663' elevation gain.

At long last - in the bag
From Big Mtn pass w/ Brent. Tagged Big Mtn, Big Mtn South and several other sub-peaks en route to Grandview. After admiring this peak from many other peaks I finally bit the bullet and made the (successful) attempt. Lotsa wind today. Und wo war meine Lieblingspartnerin? Na ja, was gibt's Neues: IVD!

Grandview
From Big Mountain Pass along with Big Mountain South, Big Mountain, and Swallow Rocks. Great hike along the ridge, all said and done the hike was 20.2 miles, 5,699 vertical feet, and 7 hours 15 minutes.

Long way
From Big Mountain Pass. Also did P9158. The Great Western Trail was great, but after turning off of that the trail was hard to follow and then seemed to peter out completely, but maybe without the snow it would have been more apparent. Cloudy and windy. About 19.2 miles total.

Bicycle to Rotary Park Gate, Endless 'Shwhack After
Cycled to the top of Rotary Park and locked up on the gate. After City Creek Meadows, the bushwhacking began in earnest. Instead of taking the easier route towards the Sessions, I took a gully basically at random and suffered through the gambel and scrub oak nightmare until I made the summit.
While I was pleased with the novel approach (bicycle + Trail run > Hike), my blood-sugar levels took a dip on account of not packing enough food, and I marched back through the soggy meadows feeling pretty desolate and tired.
Honestly, this mountain would make more sense as a snowshoe ascent (with stable snow and low avalanche risk, obviously).

Long day
From Big Mountain Pass, three of us, SP'ers Imontop, Aldocious, and myself did 18 miles roundtrip on a beautiful fall day. Elevation gain according to my GPS was 4800+ feet for the roundtrip. The last entry in the summit register was Sep 9th. And, I should mention, the views from the summit were indeed grand. Geocache addicts can also find a 2002 geocache hidden in the area.

Tougher than expected
Started from Rotary Park in City Creek Canyon. The snow made it really difficult along the ridge from Burro Peak to Grandview. Very narrow in places with plenty of moats in the rocks. Carried snow shoes up. Hike ended up being almost 13 miles RT with 5800 feet of elevation change. Many ups and downs. The trail?? to Rudy's Flat is very overgrown in places. Definitely some bushwacking

Route Climbed: Great Western from Big Mountain Pass
Started at Big Mountain pass heading west/north along the Great Western trail. New snow from earlier in the week made my progress a little slower than anticipated. Straight forward route to the summit although I could not find a trail on the final approach. Took about 2 hours 20 mins to reach the peak. Instead of doing an out and back I (foolishly) decided to stick to the north ridge of City Creek all the way to Rudy Flat then connect it to the 4wd double track further down the ridge. I finished by coming down the pipeline trail into City Creek canyon. Route finding was very difficult with the new snow, several bushwhack sections made for slow progress and bloody shins.
