Lauren's Arete
With Pat from the front range. Woke up to a late season snow at the north rim. Laruen's is a good "rest" day or bad weather day route. A lot of easy ground. Fairly secure solo for the competent soloist. Seems like many skip the first pitch by hiking up the second gully in from the west. However, the end of the first pitch offers some of the best 5.7/8 climbing on the route. Other than that, just sporadic climbing at the grade if even. The walk off narrow ledge near the end of your return to SOB gully might be the most exciting part of the climb (where Lauren fell and therefore the name). The views down canyon from this climb are exceptional the whole way. More of a ridge climb vs an "arete" climb.
I am glad I did this one, but most likely will not repeat this one. I enjoyed Tourist Route, Maiden Voyage, Ground Control and other routes much more...Views are great, climbing so-so.
