Barva bog.
Sunny day but very wet and muddy trail. Extremely rough road leading in to the trailhead.

True summits of Poas and Barva
I spent a month climbing volcanoes. We did Poas and Barva in the same day and both included challenging route finding and wet jungle bushwhacking. Watch for tapir tracks on Barva and don't attempt without a GPS and good rain gear. It's serious up there.
Other peaks I bagged on this trip include...
Mexico:
Volcán La Malinche, Cofre de Perote, Pico de Orizaba (country highpoint, 3rd highest in North America), Volcán Iztaccíhuatl, Pico de Aguila, Nevado de Toluca, Cerro de Ombugo, Pico de Humboldt, Nevado de Colima, Cerro Tancitaro
Guatemala:
Volcán Pacaya, Volcán Tajumulco (country highpoint, 24th most prominent peak on earth), Volcán Concepción, Volcán Tacaná (2nd highest in Central America), Cerro Chemal "La Torre", Cerro Chemal "Cerro los Cuervos", Montañas Peña Blanca, Volcán Santa María, Volcán Atitlán, Volcán Acatenango
Costa Rica:
Volcán Irazú, Cerro Chirripó (country highpoint, 36th most prominent on earth), Cerro Piramide, Cerro Terbi, Cerro Buenavista

Poas and Barva
Both Poas and Barva with Greg Jagielski and Kadee Smith. Great trails to the crater rim and Laguna overlooks, but kinda crappy bushwhacks to the highpoints. Cool areas and we had fantastic weather.

PoasSome of the thickest jungle I have navigated. Don't know if I truly summited.

Went there on a tourVolcan Poas is quite an interesting little trip. The active crater area almost looks like a quarry.

Volcan PoasGot there too late to walk some of the trails, but a very beautiful crate lake at the 'summit', and a great day trip from San Jose.

Cloud movement ...was great! We had a great view from the summit and down into the caldera when we arrived and within 10 minutes, clouds rolled in, obscuring our view.
