The two above were gone in Sept, 2004. The square plate at bottom made of soft lead was broken in two. It was placed there in 1933 and I fear that it too will disappear eventually - too many visitors to this summit I'm afraid.
Bob, I'm sorry to hear that they're gone. Maybe they're with all of the missing summit registers?
I think the missing summit registers is a different issue. These plates were probably taken by a souvenir hunter (aka jerk). The summit registers were probably removed by one or more Wilderness Act vigilantes (aka eco-jerks) who believe the summits should remain unblemished.
Damn, they were there as late as 2002. Bad mountain karma should come to those who tamper with summit registers!

I don't think the lead plate was broken by vandalism; it is simply very fragile.
