Astonishing green

Look at the green of Prutas, like a carpet!

Great image, Pavle

Re: Astonishing green

Thanks Pavle! Yes, mix of green carpets or green ledges between the white limestone cliffs or layers is absolutely incredible on Durmitor and here that is well displayed. I've never seen it anywhere like on Durmitor, it is so beautiful!

Re: Greeeeeen! :)

Since I live in a specific place, where rocks dominate over the greenery and vegetation, I find images like this mesmerizing. I could stand on a precipice for hours and enjoy the sheer beauty of Durmitor. Only thing I find more interesting than this specific image are ice-covered mountains and glaciers, there is nothing equal to that. :-)

Ice vs Green

I agree Sinisa; that frozen water on the mountains is fascinating! But imagine Himalayas, Alps and similar glaciated mountains without ice and snow. They would loose more than half of the beauty and would be just bare and dark granite mountains. Then, Durmitor and such rich green mountains with attractive relief would be more beautiful, at least to me.

Re: Ice vs Green

If the beautiful mountain massifs lost their glaciated surface, they would hold no interest for me. There are so many phenomena I find breathtaking, and greenish background of Durmitor is one of them. It is a place I would like to climb and hike, taking meditative, contemplative pauses admiring the force of creation, it is the place embodying the spirit of all-pervasive serenity. On the other hand, high altitude, glaciers, ice, etc. symbolize the battle with yourself, with your own abilities, going over the limits imposed by your body and psyche. Not to mention the structures formed by frozen water, landscapes of virginal snow, scenery you will never see on the lower mountains. Since I still hadn't climbed on ice, I don't know how exactly that looks like. Perhaps I will be too awkward, failing to climb over the lowest ice wall. I really don't know if I'll be capable of swinging my ice-axe for hours in the row, traversing the difficult routes, but one thing I am sure of is this: my heart yearns for ice climbing and I will try it as soon as I have enough time and money to travel. But still I can appreciate the splendour of a forested mountain, and valleys filled with lakes. Not only appreciate, but stand in awe of the nature's complex creation, taking my breath away with its beauty. Therefore, Durmitor will remain near the top of the mountains I want to climb with exquisite joy.
