Sept 1999. We stopped to...

Sept 1999. We stopped to rest at the top of the Trough before tackling the Narrows. This was my 2nd trip up Longs, this time as a very long dayhike. Went with my brother-in-law, also a photographer. Since it was a perfect weather day, we took our time, roundtrip about 19 hours!! In that time, we shot approx. 25 rolls of film between the two of us. Wish I had stock in Kodak :)

19 hours! Why?

19 hours on a 15 mile hike is like an hour and 10 minutes per mile... that is realy realy milking it. Did you nap on the summit?

Re: 19 hours! Why?

Jon,

Yup, we did milk it for sure. But you have to understand that you're talking about two photographers here. :) By the end of the day, we had shot 25 rolls of film between the two of us, so there was alot of stopping and shooting. We started at about 2:30 under a full moon, spent at least an hour and a half just shooting sunrise and the early AM light at Granite Pass. We spent an hour or so on the summit, and took our time getting back down. We were also blessed with perfect weather, not a single cloud the entire day, so we weren't concerned about getting down too fast. All in all, it was a great day, albiet a mighty long one.

Just to let you know, the next time I did Longs, we did it in 13 hours.
