10/22/05: Mount Belford's northwest slopes, as seen from near timberline in Missouri Gulch. The deep snow made for a tough trudge to the summit.

snow depth

Belford was my first 14teener, did it in July 2005...curious as to the depth of the snow when you went up...as a flatlander going from 300 feet to 14,000 feet in two days was tough enough...I couldn't imagine doing it in the snow...you'd find me in the spring!

Re: snow depth

The snow was between 2-3 feet deep almost the entire way from where this picture was taken. It was all fresh powdery snow, therefore very taxing to the legs.

Re: hey

On the day that I was up there, I was able to follow a trail the whole way to timberline, though it was difficult to find some times. With more snow it may require bushwhacking.
