I started to dig deep in my slide collection tonight and found this one from 2000. At a first glance, I wasn't sure if its clouds or higher hills in the top right corner. It's hills.
A strange and very colorful area.
What exactly are the locals cultivating there? Could it possibly be a natural phenomenon--terracing caused by the melting of sculpted snow?
Thanks for making me reflect on that. I think you're right. It doesn't look like man-made terraces. Sometimes I saw people working with spades up there on the hillsides, but I never walked up to check out what they were doing.
I like the shade of green. Think maybe the terraces are caused by critters as you see those terraces often where sheep, cattle free graze.
so much for not spending much time on SP tonight...
"found" your photos and got stuck there. many good ones!
I agree his point of view. You will see same terraces in Tibetan area where many yaks are grazed.
I visited the area where the photo is shot this summer. I had a look at the those "terraces". I'm pretty sure now they're caused by the many domestic animals in the area.
I asked a local guy about it, but I don't speak any Kyrgyz, he no English. Our knowledge in Russian was at a low level, but if I got him right he confirmed it was caused by the many animals walking and grazing on the slope.
Another great shot Corax!! Perspective, scenery and colors are terrific!! Oh yes, donkey adds that final touch :-)
Another great shot by Corax! Wow, your photoalbum contains some of the best pictures I've seen on SP so far.
Beautiful photo, perfect colours, nice perspective!
Very nice indeed, colurs, perspective, focus..and as somebody said: the donkey give it the final and perfect touch
wonderful atmosphere of the place and the moment ...
It was a nice moment, taking a break from the cycling, looking and enjoying the green hills of Kyrgyzstan after some pretty rough months in the more barren Tajikistan.
What a beautiful contrast!
A very late response :-)
