Re: wow

Absolutely, I can't complain :-). But when I was younger, I worked hard, so now I can afford to travel a bit. And it certainly helps that Peru is very cheap compared to Amsterdam.

Re: Envious SPers

Thanks. And for the envious ones: at the moment I'm contemplating future trips, so feel free to drop me a line, or let me know if you're interested in whatever I come up with. By the time my plans get more concrete and I can use partners, I'll post them in Plans & Partners.

For one, I would love to go back to the Cordillera Vilcanota someday. If I can find more information about routes on Callangate and consider it within my capabilities, I would definitely be interested, but there are many other beautiful big, yet little known mountains out there, and very few mountaineers.

It's no surprise, really. The more famous Cordillera Blanca is just as beautiful but much bigger, offering a lot more possibilities, including the highest mountain in Peru. If your time is limited, that's obviously more attractive.

Excellent TR Rob

Your trilogy has got better and better - engaging account - and what a superb experience. It must have felt good to have summited on your 2nd go when it had been so touch and go. I enjoyed all the other aspects of the trip as well though - including the little bit of Andean music - although I conceed maybe it could become trying after a too long exposure!

Re: Excellent TR Rob

It's true that it felt so much more rewarding to succeed after so much hard work, and although I've climbed routes that were more difficult, technically, this one earned a special place in my memory as one of the highlights in these four months. Cheers, Rob

Just keeps getting better!

I really wanted to hike the Asengate Circuit before I left in 2010 but never made it. Now I wish I would have allowed extra time to do it on this trip! Glad you made the summit, congrats! I know what you mean about the music, I have experienced it many times in small mountain villages here. Ear plugs don't even help!
