liskamm seems to be the matterhornaccording to the shade of the climber (the sun is somewhere in the south) the view is to the north. so the liskamm (dark rocky mountain on the upper right) has to be the matterhorn (and it really looks like it :) )

Re: liskamm seems to be the matterhornThe Matterhorn is a good 5 to 10km away from this spot and I used a 35mm lens which would make the Matterhorn one hell of a big mountian.
Anyway it was close to 10:00 when I took the shot so the sun was high in sky. This guy passed me going left to right and I was facing toward the north west taking a picture of Pollux and the Schwarze Glacier when he passed me heading to the summit which would make this east Looking at the Map the peak could be Felikjoch or point Lyskamm East peak.

Re: liskamm seems to be the matterhornwhatever, the little rock is the summit of the Matterhorn. Fox is right. I took this picture August 2000 on the summit of the Breithorn. This is of course nearer but it is the same direction

Re: liskamm seems to be the matterhornI took another look and I have to admint it looks alot like the Matterhorn but with a 35mm lens on the camara there is no way it would look so big in the back ground.
Looking at Mathais shot the angle of the shadow in my shot is down and to the right so it would be taken looking in the opposit direction of your shot. What type of lens did you use.
Again I only had a 35mm lens with me and the above picture it is not that enlarged so there is no way that the Matterhorn would look that big.
Looking at the other shots of the gaggle of people on Castor that day it is hard to tell what direction I was shooting. It was about 11:00 am and the sun was right ovehead and like I said in the original caption I only though it was Lyskamm.

Re: liskamm seems to be the matterhornmy picture was also taken sometimes in the morning, perhaps also around 10 o'clock. On one picture the terrain falls to the left on the other to the right, so perhaps because of that the shadows fall in different directions. I have a zoom lens between 35 and 70 mm. So indeed on my picture the mountain cannot be smaller than on yours.
Distance from Matterhorn to Breithorn is around 8 km, to Castor 12 km. so perhaps it is not so different concerning the size of a seen mountain.
But as Fred pointed out: the structure of rocks and ledges is identical, so there is no doubt.
From where did you climb Castor? If it was from Sella hut - as I presume - then you did it via the south east ridge. In this case there is no possibility for the ridge to cover Liskamm which is north east of you.
For comparison: I scanned a picture from Pollux to Lyskamm. Lyskamm typically has an ice cap left of the summit
