A silver-washed fritillary at the base of the Demut ascent. The latin name is Argynnis (Argynnis) paphia but is as meaningless as the English one to me. The German name "Kaisermantel" means "Emperor's Robe" and this is something I can deal with ;-) Sept 21st 2004

Knock off the butterfly crap!

That's what Paul Klenke says about it :-))) Somehow I don't understand why my camera is so much better at macro shots than at mountain pictures. I still have some persuading to do...

Italian name ?

Glad that you have an expert colleague who can determine the sex of butterflies. I'm impressed! Did he use a magnifying glas? <:o}

What does the Italian name "Arginnide dei ruscelli" mean?

... und sehr schwer zu fotografieren, weil die Kerlchen echt nicht stillsitzen können. Und weil sie ziemlich gross sind, sind sie mit ein, zwei Flügelschlägen ganz woanders.

Re: Incredible game..

Thanks again. It's my only photo of this kind of butterfly. They are just soooo shy. This one wasn't and I was lucky the photo turned out so good.
