The Pieniny Mountains are called the Polish Dolomites

These mountains are separated by the Dunajec river into three parts: the Pieniny Spiskie known also as the Spiskie Rocks (a western range); the Pieniny, treated here as a separate range; and the Small Pieniny (an eastern range). The northern slopes of these mountains are forested by spruces, pines and firs, and their southern parts are very steep and open. Rocks are of various kinds of limestone. All the area of Pieniny is protected as a national park with very rare plants (e.g. 30 species of orchids, Chrysanthemum zawadzki, Erysimum pieninicum), butterflies, birds (e.g. black stork, eagle owl, wall-creeper) and mammals (e.g. river otter, lynx). This range is one of the most picturesque in Poland. The Dunajec river breaks these mountains in form of a very beautiful gorge. In their eastern part two interesting castles, Niedzica and Czorsztyn, are visited by many people. Two summits, on Trzy Korony Mt. (982 m asl) and Sokolica Mt. (747 m asl) offer special panoramas. The Pieniny neighbour southward with the Tatras and north-westward with the Gorce Mts.

I am preparing the Areas&Ranges page for these mountains
