About Bükk mountains

You can find information and a beautiful photo album here!

Some more about Bükk mountains and especially this album. First of all most of the photos were made on a tour on the 2nd of November, 2007, which I made with my brother and a friend of ours. Some photos are made exactly two years earlier but this is only by luck. All photos were made by me exceptionally.

Names. Hungarian names are very difficult to spell, and who knows their meanings...?
Bükk: The name of the mountain comes from the tree Fagus sylvestris. It is exactly "Fagus".
Három-kõ: Three-stone in English, is a "peak" or even more a cliff with 904 metres above see level.
Tar-kõ: Bald-stone in English. A cliff west from Három-kõ with its 945 metres height. Most of the photos are made from here especially thoose of the sunset.
Bánkút: A skiing center at the edge of the Bükk-uplands on 880m.
Hollóstetõ: Holiday area near Bükkszentkereszt, half way between Eger and Miskolc at about 581 metres above see level.
Eger: A bigger city next to Bükk (south-west).
Miskolc: The other capital of Bükk beside Eger on the other (north-east) side of the mountain.
Felsõtárkány, Répáshuta, Bükkszentkereszt: Beautiful, very small villages in the heart of Bükk mountains.

Senses

There are many words said and written about mountains, their geographical position, their flora, the chance to visit them, but no one speaks or writes about the feeling of being among them. No one tells us what to feel when you are in nature, what to think about.

It is common that hungarian mountains are hills, not really mountains. So climbing and walking them are not really mountainous activities. Why do we like it anyway? Why do I write about it? Mountains which you can climb without danger or great experiences. The same as the difference between Chateau Mouton Rothschild and Gamay de Touraine (excuse me for the simile but I'm studying to be a winemaker). Bükk is not Matterhorn. You do not feel that beautiful fear on the top as what you feel on Wildspitze. You only feel silence and God. That's what your soul is thirsty for.

When we were waiting for hours in the cold on Tar-kõ for the sunset we were excited like we were climbing Mount Blanc 'cause we were waiting for a very similiar wonder. The wonder which I tried to share with you by these photos. The wonder of being human. The wonder of being creatures and not creators. The wonder of being small. The wonder that we can all see that. That's why we go there...for the casual wonders.

Be proud, all of you, that you could take part in the most wonderous action of creation!

Parents

Parents refers to a larger category under which an object falls. For example, theAconcagua mountain page has the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits' asparents and is a parent itself to many routes, photos, and Trip Reports.
