Great hike with OTC group.
My first time up Algonquin. One of the most beautiful Adirondack high peaks. I've been up in winter conditions, and most recently, in September of 2004.
Climbed first on May 26 1993, cold, rainy near the summit, ice, no views. Came back to Heart Lake via Avalanch Pass where the skies cleared and sun came out. Was still a great hike. I've since climbed it over 7 times. It's short and relatively easy and hell it has awesome views!
3 times in full blown winter, one other time in an October snowstorm and whiteout. Backpacked over the top once. One day in July 1971, went over Wright, Algonquin, to Iroquois. There was no trail to Iroquois back then, and the trip was over and through extremely tough balsam.
I finally made it! This one had been dogging me with previous attempts spoiled by bad weather or illness. It was a tough day for me, but beautitul with barely a breath of wind and the sun peeking in and out. Again, I have to thank Paul for his help with this. Also did Iroquois before heading back down to the Loj. : )
Climbed Algonquin with my brother from the Loj. It was great to be up there on a Monday, since there were only a few others. Supposedly, there were 50 people on the mountain the day before. It was also very windy and icy on the mountain, but the views were spectacular.
Very Windy at the top...
With my first climbing buddy-Sherpa!!!
drove from ct on friday night after work got there just before night fall ran to marcy dam slept there and then woke to hike all day sat.. slept at mcntyre(not right) falls woke sunday hike the rest and went home.. big looop not the same trail twice.. nother high peak.. good times
Did this before I new about crampons. Was super windy, and super cold. But we all made it to the top. HIghlight was when one partners goggles went flying, and another partner went dashing off to get them. Not the best move, but he got them back. Great mountain.
2 down only 44 to go......can't stop
ALONG WITH WRIGHT PEAK. ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE MOUNTAINS, AND A GREAT REMINDER OF HOW BIG AND BEAUTIFUL NY STATE CAN BE.
Bushwhacked to the top from Marcy Brook. I do not recommend this route unless you are in to self-torture.
Great hike, for a fair amount we were enshrouded in mist, and the rock was very slippery, adding to a moderately physically challenging hike. The summit was spectacular, especially with the fog.
Combined with Wright and Iriquois. It wasn't too bad as someone had already kicked the trail in the snow to this point.
Yeaaahh. i made it. of course with the help of great friend Serkan. we drank tea at the summit using the melted snow water, it was sunny, views were incredible. do it. do it. do it.
After hiking Wright Peak we moved over and hiked our way up threw the croweds to the summit. Trail gets good and steep and is a fun hike. great views
Easy summer hike from the Loj with a cool breeze up top
What an awesome peak. This was my first trip to the Daks and I sure was impressed. Amazing views and a gorgeous August Day even though it was a bit chilly. Beautiful place!
The hike that began my 46 quest (not counting Marcy long ago). One of the best views for a short roundtrip anywhere in the East. Yes, there was snow and ice in early November.
Had a good time. Started at 0555, got back down at 1105. Steep in some spots. Slippery and muddy, had to carry a stick. First one on the trail for the day. Lots of people going up when I was coming back down. Summit was in the clouds. When I left it looked like it was clearing up.
