will hit it next time up 2011!!!
Wanna go back for Wright and Iroquois
of the hitch-em-up-mathildas as we walked along lake colden
Perfect weather. About a foot of snow on the ground, but the trail was pretty well compacted, having microspikes was very helpful.
Lots of rain in the days prior made the route mroe closely resemble a waterfall, but it was great fun. Rime and wind up top in the clouds, no view. Guess I will have to come back!
First hike in the Dak's. Great day, great hike. Except for the cloud sitting right on top! Boo! Went a day after a heavy rain so the way down was pretty slippery - and a good amount of ice and wind on top.
I enjoyed running down this mountain.
I just like signing climbing logs years after the fact .....
VERY hot day, in the mid- to high 80s all day. Hiked with my wife and had a short, but nice, rest at the top. Really wanted to do Iroquois and Wright, but we just didn't have enough time. Maybe next time.
second or third peak climbed
Hiked up from Loj via the yellow trail. Weather was iffy, but I decided that's when one can get some really neat pictures. Just above treeline I put on my jacket. About 45 temp and 30 mph winds and almost able to touch the bottom of the clouds it seemed. Went up Wright on the way down. Great day!
UPDATE: Hiked up Algonquin Peak again on 23 May, 2015 with my son (14) and 2 of his friends. Started at the Loj about 8:00 A.M., Memorial Day weekend. Beautiful day and the trail was in great shape except some icy spots higher up. Did this as a loop, taking the trail down the other side, very steep, to Avalanche Pass, and out to Marcy Dam and back to the Loj. 12 miles, 9 1/2 hours total with some breaks and plenty of pictures. I was going to get Iroquois also, but missed the trail at Algonquin's timberline.
It was a beautiful day..which rarely happens to me in the daks. Approached through lake Colden. Tough start, but great views throughout the trail.
we had great weather and great views on our first summit of our four day trip. my first time in the daks, i am sure i'll be back
Absolute perfect weather made climbing this pleasant.Veiws were as good as Mt.Washington in NH.Also climbed Iroquios and made a hike onto Shepards Tooth...Jim W
Did the trio.Algonquin, iroqouis and Wright. It was raining all weekend so that put a stop to ant breathtaking veiws. The mountain does still remain magnificent though...Jim wallace
Ascended via the yellow trail from Lake Colden. Beautiful, warm, sunny summer day. Can't ask for much more!
Snowshoed up from the ADK Loj. Weather on the summit was bitter but clear. Great views of Colden and Marcy. Returned Aug 2010 to hike the ridge to Iroquois and Wright.
The trail had turned into a stream in places. I almost could have swum to the top.
a weak cold front brought with it some clouds that clung at about 4500 feet and up. it decided to clear about 2PM.. an hour after i had started descending towards Avalanche Lake.. no views was a disappointment. a lot of scrambles on the way up and even more ppl up top when i arrived...
peak was great as expected, on the descent we criss-crossed a roaring snow melt stream multiple times, the highlight for me.
