Huge Chunk of Rock  Sucess!

Big boy of a mountain but worth the views and the 3,200 feet of descent on scree to Cracker. Snow Moon up is a slog. I did not see the large cairn that is supposed to mark the Great Break (but it's pretty obvious), and you do not cross a foot/horse bridge to get to the social trails at the beginning any longer.

High Traverse to The Great Break via Snow Moon Basin  Sucess!

The prettiest scenery we've had on a bid yet. The walk from above the basin to the break was a little bit of a slog at first, but the view of Allen is amazing. Made it harder for ourselves for fun and got into some low 5th-class to the left of the break.

On Summit for Sunset at 9:30pm  Sucess!

As OP says, "a mountaineer's delight." That is, unless you are coming down in the dark. Get lost. Get cliffed out a couple times. Bushwack through thick chest high greenery for the better part of a mile. Finish it off in horse crap so carefully covering the width of the trail throughout the last mile or so. And arrive to the car at 2am.

With all that aside, I would definitely do it again! Best sunset of my life with rain clouds in all directions off in the distance dropping lots of rain. Invaluable learning experience. I'm glad I had a friend with me!

From Snow Moon  Sucess!

My first longer climb in the park. I still remember looking around in disbelief from the summit.

Awesome Route  Sucess!

Climbed via the Great Break in July 2010 with a group of five climbers of various ability levels. Everybody loved it. The Goat trail, Snow Moon and Falling Leaf lakes, the total lack of scree slogging after the first hour, fun class 4 climbing in the Great Break. Who doesn't love this route? One of my favorites.

Mt Allen  Sucess!

Also climbed June 21 2006 and June 22 2007.
One of my favorite climbs in the park. Allen is the second largest mountain by mass in the park (behind Rising Wolf) and you get to explore most of it. I have always ascended via Snow Moon basin and descended to Cracker Lake. Early in the season there is an incredible snow field that allows you to drop 3000 vertical feet. Great fun!

Great Break Route  Sucess!

Great route, fantastic summit views. Was surprised at how straightforward the climb up the Great Break was - lots of great handholds the entire way. From the summit, I descended into the large basin to the north towards Lake Josephine. If you choose this route, stay above the treeline and head north towards the Many Glacier Hotel for as long as possible! I headed down far too early and found myself climbing down near waterfalls and bushwhacking through alder thickets. I literally stumbled out onto the Piegan Pass Trail after crashing through the woods for a bit - glad to hit the trail!

Allen Mountain  Sucess!

This was a LONG day. Started by hiking to Cracker Lake, and then ascended the long, and tiring, scree slopes to the summit. Views were incredible, and I hated to leave but storm clouds said otherwise. I decided to "shortcut" the descent by going down the north side, towards Josephine Lake. I did make good time until I hit treeline and then the nightmare began. The next mile was endless downfalls and brush that took about two hours to pick my way through. When I came out on the trail leading to Piegan Pass, I was one happy camper. All in all, this was a memorable traverse of this huge mountain. Try it for a different experience.

Bluebird Summit Day  Sucess!

Excellent morning trip from Cracker Lake to the summit. The spectacular views and solitude (not another person up on the peak) combined to make a memorable day in Glacier.
