In that light ,the peak behind Donovan, (Little Tahoma),
looks like something from the European Alps !!!
How were the conditions of the route ???

Re: In that light ,The conditions were formidable but excellent!! A somewhat soft wind-blown top layer gave way to six inches of cold powder atop a hardened base layer. This pic at dawn followed five hours of 40 mph wind gusts and sideways snow. The next two hours were beautiful with a very, very low chance avalanche. Even as the day warmed and the sun baked the afternoon glaciers, not one sign of sliding or sloughing occurred.
You know about the 11 on the Ingraham Flats above Camp Muir that were swept away by the 100 X 300 meter slide on 6/5/10, right? Lots of drama on the other side of the mtn at about the exact same time this pic was taken. But the tales were about as opposite as north and south, day and night, apples and oranges, ect...

Could that be (because) the Ingraham glacier
side is at a "south-facing" aspect, while the
upper Emmons is more of a "north-facing"
aspect?
It's not prudent to "second-guess" Mother Nature.

Great capture.It is strange to think that such different experiences existed at the same time, so close to each other.
