First peak over 4000'
Joined YK and a handful of other Bay Area folks for a day trip. Gorgeous weather. My first peak over 4000ft and my first introduction to altitude sickness :(

Snowy Alta
Post holed the last 1000ft, but the view was worth it!

Southwest Face
It may be spring on the calendar but this was a winter climb. Snow, with a few breaks, all the way from 1 mile out of Wolverton. On the upper half, no sign of a trail and no tracks so freestyled the route. Straight up the southwest face. Crampons for the last several hundred feet as snow conditions varied. Warm temperatures for the day lower on the mountain melted off significant amounts of snow just in the course of the day, the trail will be dusty before long.

Sunny October Day
Solo hike last October on a beautiful clear day. Only saw a couple other people the whole day, mostly at the summit. I plan on coming back this summer & bringing the family this time.

Winter Alta ski
Solo from camp above the hut. Busy area, snow levels are low for this time of year. There was a crevasse at about 10K level, easy to miss especially if you are skiing, better to stay in the main chute (closer to the hut).

Thanksgiving Climb
Summited the day after Thanksgiving. Beautiful weather. Even got into the upper 70's by the time we left the summit. Pretty sustained snow above 9,000ft. Post holed the last mile through knee deep snow and had the summit to ourselves! Great way to spend a holiday! (countrykyle.wordpress.com)
Great hike! Weather was perfect, got up to the summit around 1 PM and just hung out for a few hours. No afternoon T-storms! The 10 ft climb from the logbook canister to the summit marker is not as scary as it looks.
Been waiting to stand on the summit ever since setting eyes on the Great Western Divide from Panther Gap many years ago. Views from the gap all the way to the summit are nothing short of incredible. Combined with a perfect late summer day, this will always be one of my favorite Sierra memories.

Great day hike
Snowshoed up on a beautiful day. Trail was hard to follow in some parts, but the view from the top and glissade down were well worth it.

Climbed this more than once -- 6/30/84 was with brothers Jon & Andrew and friend Stan. We headed cross-country to Pear Lake, I got off track and into a scary descent...

Beautiful day at Alta Peak
Hiked Alta Peak yesterday solo. Beautiful day. Windy and cool on the summit. Both registers on the summit were full, so did not get to sign in. Only saw three people all day. Very little snow, although a Winter storm was on the way.

Snowy Fall Hike
A foot of snow about 1 week before my trip made for a glorious fall hike. Ran into a mother bear with two cubs while taking a detour up to Panther Peak.

World Class Views
Great hike from Wolverton, several miles through dense forest with bears, and then the views open up over the Great Western Divide. From the summit, you can see Whitney. The last two miles are straight up, tough but worth it. Also is an excellent place to get engaged. :D
With two friends who had never gone hiking. Tough first hike, but well worth it. Beautiful scenery on a beautiful day with great friends--can't be beat.
After a hiking partner bailed on me at last minute, I decided on a solo trip to Alta Peak. I started at the normal TH at Wolverton parking lot, hiked ther Lakes Trail to Heather Lake via the Watchtower Route, than on to Aster Lake, Emerald Lake and finally Pear Lake for lunch. From Pear Lake skirted the north (east?) shoreline to the end of the lake. From here, scrambled some Class III and IV sections up to the saddle about halfway between Peak 11,328 and Alta Peak. Hiked the ridgeline and summited Alta Peak. Descended the south face Class I route around Tharps Rock, through Mehrten Meadow, Panther Gap, and then back up to join the Lakes Trail again. Nice 15 mile lollipop route.
