Amazing clusters of...

Amazing clusters of Columbines abound in the upper Blue Lakes basin. I rarely post flower pictures, but the displays here were stupendous. Yankee Boy Basin is better know for its flowers, but Blue Lakes Basin will not disappoint! 12 July 2004.

Fantastic

and excellent. The San Juans in general are the best spot in Colorado for flowers, although Crested Butte comes in pretty close to earning the title. The San Juan weather has been great for flowers this year.

Heh-heh, it's funny, but we went to C.B. the day after this photo was taken and the flowers were totally mediocre! I've noticed that the subalpine stuff is past its peak now. Best stuff has been close to 12,000 ft as far as I can tell.
