This is a diagram of the method recommended to me by one of my climbing mentors. According to him, it is (or at least was at one point in time) the preferred method taught by NOLS.

very usefull

thank's just in time. wasn't sure how to pitch my tent in the snow. been fiddling with it for a while but snow is not very common here, so thank's again.

Nicely done

This is a great illustration of a solid snow anchor. One additional step could be handy. That is to work harden (pack down) the snow.
