Anderson Mtn South Summit from East Side  Sucess!

Anderson Mtn South Summit from East Side Sucess!

Main purpose of posting here is to say our car was broken into during the hike. We hiked up the east side, parking at the logging road barricade just off Rt 9, about a mile north of where prairie rd joins rt 9 (48.61390, -122.22728). This is where the PNT starts heading up east side of Anderson. We had a nice bike up the logging roads and ended up stashing the bikes in the woods when it got steep and snowy then eventually took a logging road to the south peak (48.61452, -122.26629) which had some really nice views of skagit valley and the sound. Snow was not more than ankle deep. It was a major bummer to get back to the car and see the window smashed in and have some personal stuff stolen. I thought it was a pretty safe spot since it was visible to traffic going up and down Rt 9 (it was only about 10 feet from the highway, just parked to the side a little so we would not block the gate). But maybe the visibility of the car was part of the problem. Anyway - beware. And FWIW - here is a link to my caltopo homework. https://caltopo.com/m/MVDGN (these were drawn tracks, not generated during the hike and they don't show the route to the south summit but it is an easy forest road to follow. Good luck, be careful. Wish we had left the doors unlocked!

Signing the log, hoping this is the same peak  Sucess!

My buddies were calling this "Anderson Butte," but, from the description, this is likely the same place. Long day with Sauk, Dock and Anderson.

East Side PNT  Sucess!

Rode up to the start of the PNT and hiked from there. Nice view of Lake Whatcom from the overlook.

Winter ascent  Sucess!

Skinned from the quarry / shooting area up to the clearcut for some decent winter turns on a totally unused trail. Glad to have friends in Alger that knew of this location! I'll be back when the snow improves ...

Solo Bicycle Ascent  Sucess!

Rode my bicycle all the way to the saddle between the two highest bumps despite a bit of snow on the ground above 3000 feet. There were several fixed ropes to assist the final steep slope. Partial views of the San Juans, Olympics, Baker, Twin Sisters Range were all good. I was surprised that I could see Mount Olympus from an open vantage point just south of the actual summit. With the bike, my descent time was only about 30 minutes.

Anderson Mountain  Sucess!

Came in via the route described from the east. PNT trail was in horrible condition from 3000' and up, with blowdowns everywhere. Actually found some great summit views from the most southerly point on the summit ridge (there seems to be three high points, the only good views are at the one marked 3364' on the USGS map).

East route  Sucess!

Nice view of Baker part way up. No summit views but I enjoyed the quiet late winter hike and snowshoeing. If nothing else, a good early season conditioner.

Bushwhacking  Sucess!

Bushwhacked to all the closed contours on the ridge. I think the second one from the south is highest.

Anderson  Sucess!

Did this with Bob and Duane in the rain on a snow covered road. Winter weather. Tagged both summit possibilities.

A LOT Of Road Hiking!!!  Sucess!

I knew there would be a lot of road hiking involved when trying to summit this mountain, but it was much moreso than I expected. I decided to also explore the southern side of the mountain's upper ridgeline in addition to the summit(s). Logging activity is VERY noticeable on this mountain. I was very disappointed with the lack of summit views.
