Andesite Peak via Castle Valley and Castle Pass. Party of 2. 2.2 miles and about 1 hr 40 min to the summit. Weather was great with some cloud coverage and very mild winds, but still lots of snow on the ground and we left our snowshoes at the house. 950 ft elevation gain.
Fun link-up with Castle Peak on the first big snow of the season before it melted back out a week later!
Snowshoe outing on new year's eve day with my father-in-law. The snow was fresh and a break in the weather made for a fine day.
Snowshoed to the top with NorCal Women Adventurers. Fun day trip with fantastic views.
day hike using snowshoes, from basin peak.
Short diversion on the way back to the car after Castle and Basin.
Starting at the trailhead, and with snow covering the trail, just headed straight up the slope through the trees and snow to the summit.
Castle/Basin/Andesite. The top was a bug infested mess. Cool red rocks though.
Fun blustery snowshoe trip
Climbed this peak in a raging snow storm with a group of five. Our original plan was to climb Red Lake Peak in Carson Pass. The weather was terrible, Hwy 88 was closed, and we wanted to get on top of something. Andesite peak turned out to be a great option that day.
Overnight backpack started with Andesite, to Castle, to Basin and down to Paradise Lake. Good fun and lovely setting at the lake.
Snowboarded down. Cruddy snow, but a fun trip!
went from Castle Peak to Basin, then down to the meadow and up to Andesite. There was snow snow and ice, but generally a pretty dry winter.
had to settle for Andesite after not talking my girlfriend, of the time, into going up Castle.
Planned to do Castle, but from the pass Andesite had way more snow and way less people (actually no people at all), plus I'd never been. It was nice and peaceful plus got to teach my girlfriend some self-arrest on the steep slushy snow.
Nice snowshoe hike up Andesite Peak then on over to Castle Peak. Beautiful sunny day. Nice kick off to the winter season.
Dayhike with Castle.
Dropped the east face (scary cornice!) and stayed in Castle Valley. Took the trail by storm on ski's (bobsledding anyone?) and made it to the car in 5 minutes flat after tagging and dropping Castle and Basin. Helluva day.
Saw this on the way back from Castle and figured what the hell.
Capping off a 7 peak summer day.
