Re: Is this allowed?

Yes, it is allowed. There it is even recommended that they have enough to eat for the winter. There are sign with the message to feet the marmots.

Re: Is this allowed?

Then please add this (that there was a sign) to the picture. Feeding wild animals is illegal or not recommended normally but many think feeding them is cute or something like that. No need to advertise feeding wild animals on SP - a short note that this was a special place would not hurt.

Cheers!

Feeding

When I first visited Saas-Fee back in 1964 it was well-known that halfway up to the Längfluh hut there was a colony of marmots so tame that you could practically scratch their chin. Everybody was feeding them, and they seemed to thrive. Apparently they still do. Whether you could call them wild is a question. Moreover, in the Dolomites the Alpendohlen practically demand to be fed if you sit down to eat on a top. I have never heard anybody say that one should not feed them. In my opinion sharing your lunch with them is part of the fun of climbing in the Dolomites.
