Another Yosemite

Another Yosemite

This photo looks so much like it was taken in Yosemite Valley; but it wasn't, it was taken from the base of Tehipite Dome overlooking Tehipite Valley. This is Yosemite Valley's wilderness cousin, just a bit narrower and steeper. There are no cars, no tourists, no garbage, none of that b.s.. You have to work to get in and out. It's a comfortable two day hike from Wishon Reservoir, but can be done in one long day. I've visited three times and had the whole pristine habitat to myself each time. Middle Fork of The Kings River, Sequoia/Kings Canyon NP, California, USA. July 1987. Kodachrome 64.

Wow!

It's great to see a pic from this vantage point! I guess it is a monumental task to hike up the Middle Fork of the Kings River, but it must also be breath-taking once you get into the higher reaches of the drainage!

Re: Wow!

Not really a monumental task getting into the valley. Climbing out can be a lung buster, but not so bad if you start the climb before the sun heats up. Once in the valley, I advise making a base camp and exploring, because it is a complex habitat worthy of careful study.
The swimming here is excellent, bring a mask and snorkel.
