Great peak
Lived up to my long awaited expectations. Had a great hike with Anna and Carson, super pleasant conditions, only saw one other hiker the entire time. 7.5 hours car to car from Columbine cc.

In Winter
Armando Menocal, Rich Henke and I skied the Arc Dome in January of 1995. I remember some good skiing in windy and cold conditions.
Ranger in Tonopah told us after the trip that this was most likely the first ever full winter skiing ascent of the peak.

Lot of miles in cold temperatures (45 degrees) with 10 mph winds. But go figure we reached the summit and the wind subsided momentarily! This one has been on my bucket list for many years.

From the Columbine Campground
With Lana (Yadahzoemtn) on a very chilly autumn day. Twenty-five degrees as we left the CG at 7 o-clock. The temperature never exceeded 45 degrees the entire day. A brisk north wind brought the wind chill to about freezing but the skies were mostly clear. Some snow on the switchbacks but no traction required. All in all an exhilarating experience in true wilderness. Never saw another person the entire day. We had cell service on the summit (Verizon) as well as during some of the higher west side traverses. Note: the final 2 miles of road to the CG were badly eroded and the ruts might challenge an ordinary sedan.

Arc Dome second attempt
Didn't have a suitable car the first time (high water). After I figured out how to get from civilization to the campground everything else was pretty straightforward. A guy who looked like a Biblical prophet left camp behind me and grew smaller and smaller in the distance. Seriously, what looked like robes and his pack slung over his shoulder or under his arm. Ran into him on the way down, still plugging away...in the middle of Nowhere.

Off course initially...
Got off course from Columbine CG by heading left and summited point 10842 to the northeast to see where I should be heading. A big grassy hill blocked the view of Arc Dome but it was the only thing higher so when the trail avoided the summit it soon revealed where I was supposed to go. Four and a half hours up and three hours down the jeep trail, finishing in darkness. The switchbacks for the final 1000 feet are well spaced making the final push go fast.
Great weather, but buggy. Greg and I left the nearly empty campground (it would be completely cleared out by the time we got back) around seven a.m. We took the DPS A route up and once at the summit we lazed around for nearly an hour. There was a register this time. We took a side trip to Cirque Peak on the way back, and continued on the lightly used pack trail, making a nice 14.7 mile loop for the day.

Standard approach. Really nice hike, we did the North summit first and then on to Arc Dome. Unbelievable views. On the way down we went over Cirque Peak completing a very nice loop.

Even with a variety of dilemmas and curve balls we were successfully in summiting and camped on top overnight.

Thunderstorms
After climbing Bunker Hill the day before we were ready for some trail hiking. Nothing new to add here other than the register is missing, as it was from Bunker Hill. Beautiful weather all morning until we started down just after one o'clock after spending a half hour basking in the sun on top. Thunderstorms began forming and mid way down we could see rain and lightning just north and east of us. Packing up to head home, the rain started falling, and the storms in the area consolidated and we were met with rain and lightning all the way back to Las Vegas. We got out just in time.

a little bit of work as you have to climb over North Arc Dome (pk 11400) coming and going. Pretty desolate area overall but some good views to the Sierra and Sweetwaters in the distance. Quite pleasant for November. Very little snow.

Nice Ultra
Climbed on a western US peakbagging trip. Climbed Mount Whitney via the Mountaineers, Boundary Peak, and Montgomery prior to Arc Dome. Climbed Arc Dome via the Columbine CG route. The trail was excellent. Had the peak all to ourselves. Stop at the Berlin State Park, it is an interesting side tour and the rangers really like having visitors
