Ausangate summit ridge

Ausangate summit ridge

Iván is leading the last stretch, we're almost there! The summit pyramid was a challenge at the end. Normally the route up to the summit is over a ridge from the south, but a crevasse was blocking that way. The west face of the pyramid was very steep and protected by a tricky bergshrund. We ended up climbing this ridge, which is from the northwest. Not too steep, but pretty loose powder. And the north face, to the left of the ridge, drops down dramatically for 1500m before leveling off ... The summit pyramid 4 June 2011.
