Fun winter ascent
Great time and perfect day. Snow was deep! Just wish the road wasn't closed 2.5 miles before the trailhead.

wife's first time post hole-ing and
first time to Baden Powell,, beautiful day,, started at Vincent Gap..temp about 48 clear no wind.. first ones in parking lot aside from the snow movers/heavey equipment.. hiked with trekking poles had crampons,, hiked first few switch backs,, then went straight up,following snowshoe tracks, was post hole-ing about 10 inches on the bottem then got to about 18 to 20 inches ( or deeper) mid mtn,, decided to turn back after 2 1/2 hours as need to keep wife happy,, made it up 3/4s of the way,, ( total wild ass guess),, went down and played in ravine with crampons and self arrest with ice axe,, took photos ate big lunch drove home ,,next time would have brough my gators, (need to get a pair for wifey),,trekking poles were critical part of the hike overall pretty darn fun
Back in the eighties, when I still lived in California, I had fond memories of BP. On three different occasions, I sat on the summit, in perfect summer conditions, and watched the sunset. When is started to clear, right before twilight, you could see Mt Whitney clearly to the north. When the sun went down, the view of the LA basin at night was very spectacular. All of the lights were amazing from almost 10,000 feet. I remember you could tell where the coastline was, by the lights. A truly inspirational experience.

Great Summer hike
This is a nice place to be in the hot weather, since going up the North side means you are in the shade for most of the trip. The views from the ridge just before the summit are outstanding.
Hey this was a great hike. This was the first summit for me and my wife. We had nine hikers with us. One very experianced hiker who happened to be dealing with a shoulder injury, one hiker between intermediate to advanced and 6 intermediate hikers. Though me and my wife just made our first summit we have been hiking for some time. This was a great experiance. I will be going up this winter for some ice training. Hope to do Langley next year.
I had gone up Baden Powell several times when covered with snow and never knew there was any "switchbacks" on the trail. First time up without snow it reminded me of below Trail Crest on Whitney. On one winter ascent, the road was closed from Mountain High and we X-country skied in. We made some great tracks on the foot of snow covering the road and were going to "race" each other back to the car. We were the only people on top so we stayed there for several hours (: When we got back to the road we discovered they plowed it to Vincent Gap and we ended up carrying our skiis most of the way back ):

With my friend, Noel. Jumped out of the Jeep and tore off in the wrong direction on the PCT for a few miles before figuring out something was very wrong. Backtracked, started again, then rain and fog showed up. Crazy day. (Loved that Wally Waldron tree!)

Warm winter ascent
Nice climb, icy in some spots but other than that the snow was perfect. Pretty warm till wind made it a little colder on top. Perfect day.

Mount Baden-Powell Ski Descent
The road was closed about 2 miles East of the Vincent Gap. I started around 12:30 pm and was near the trail head quite soon. I followed someone’s steps which climbed quite steadily. Carrying skis and not bother with skins was pretty good idea. The mountain is somewhat steep and the last hundred vertical meters did require a use of crampons. I have summited the peak at 4:35 pm. After a quick rest, I started my descent down the icy slopes. The first 10 min were unpleasant, until I reached a sheltered shadowed forest with its soft snow. The ski descent down the narrow couloir was rewarding. There was a narrow rocky portion which I decided to traverse, but other than that, the moon gave enough tonal colors to ski after the sun set (“Please do not do this, especially alone”). The hike back was under the moonlight. I was near my car around 7:30 pm. It was a good trip. The temperature could have been just a little bit cooler than 65 F.

Boulderdash
Red Truck crew doing the Ice climb up the Avalance Chutes on the Northeast face. Wear a helmet and beware of falling debris, lots of fun otherwise. Knee-deep pow on north faces down. Gonna bring a snowboard next-time. Best quality snow I've seen in SoCal.

Vincent Gap TrailI hiked up with my dad on a beautiful day. Nice getaway from the LA basin... we even saw a sailplane soaring over us at the summit!

Great peakHiked up Mount Baden-Powell from Vincent Gap. Had the summit to myself (unexpectedly) at 10am. Saw some hikers on my way down.
