Nice workout variation to Mt Wilson
Nice but hot variation to Mt Wilson Trail. I did it in the early PM (the sun was very strong) so it is a trail to enjoy in the AM or on a cloudy day. Up to Jones peak, down the connector to Mt Wilson trail & up to Orchard Camp. Then reversed steps, up Jones peak again and ended by dusk at the trailhead in Sierra Madre. To be recommended as a training route, steeper than the much busier Mt Wilson trail. In more than 4 hours I did not encounter a single hiker except at Orchard Camp.

canyoneering in the rain
Made a solo descent of the canyon in light rain this afternoon. I took about 3 hours from car to car then went to Monterey Park for some spicy Sichuanese.
This was my first canyoneering experience, and I've done the canyon many times since then! Great fun with good water flow, and a much different experience with dry conditions!

Canyoneering
Did the canyoneering route. 11 rappels ranging from 25 to about 90 feet. Two waterfalls had running water. Beautiful route.

A Favorite Canyon
This is a favorite canyon for Sunday morning trail runs. A short run will be to the top of the canyon; a longer run will involve continuing on the northwest ridge/firebreak to the Mt. Wilson Toll Rd. and up to Mt. Wilson.
In the future I would like to do the canyoneering route.

Re: canyoneering in the rainWow. That's lightning fast for approach and descent both.
