Nice hike  Sucess!

Nice hike. Did this on a beautiful Sunday where everyone was out playing in the mountains and I could have hiked naked for the first 80% because it's on a walking / horse only ATV trail and I didn't see a single soul (up or down). The ATV trail has long been given up and is mostly wilderness feeling.

Once you get to the saddle with multiple ATV trails, put your clothes back on because all the side by sides will be milling about... possibly rolling down steep hillsides as the case was when I was hiking today : )

No one will be on the summit but you.

Have fun and cheers,

PS: TH -> Bald Mtn East only -> TH ~8.5 miles RT

Nice hike  Sucess!

#1: 8/23/18: Great hike! The Serviceberry trailhead is now closed to vehicles so I had to find a spot a hundred yards up the road to pull off and park. No routefinding--ATV trails up Serviceberry and over to the south ridge of Bald Mtn East, then just take a right off the trail to follow the ridge up to the east summit (10,006). Lots of shade all the way up until the final ridge--beautiful hike overall. Haze from the western wildfires limited visibility but still good views. It's just about 4 miles from the Serviceberry trailhead to the east summit. I made a quick jog over to Sharp, and back to the east summit before crossing over to the west peak (9626). On the way back, I checked out the 9451 peak, which had great views of the canyons and peaks to the south & SW. With all the detours, it was an 11 mile RT, only saw 1 other person all day (a bow hunter on an ATV).
#2: 9/23/18: This time was on the tail end of a long day traversing the full Ophir circuit: Up Ophir South Fork to Lewiston & Flat Top, north across 9925 and 9820 to Lowe, over 10160 to Rocky, then over 9530 and back up to Bald East, coming down via Serviceberry. Heading up from 8500 feet after about 17-18 miles and 6600 ft elevation gain was brutal on both the knees and the lungs! Wind was bringing rain across Tooele and the sun setting when I got to the east summit, so I did not attempt the west summit. Altogether, 24 mi, 8100 ft elevation gain, 12 hrs 20 mins, including breaks.

Missing Fred  Sucess!

June 23, 2016: Said a prayer for Frederick Gabriel on the summit, wishing I could go back in time 15 years.

June 16, 2001: Hiked from Butterfield Pass to Ophir with Fred G. Went over 10321, Kelsey Peak, 10180, Rocky Peak, and finally Sharp/Bald Mountain. Fred wasn't too keen on bushwhacking up the last peak of the day, Sharp, and asked "Does this mountain even have a name?"

Ophir Canyon

#1 12-6-14 Got'em both and topped Chandler Peak on the way down. Some snow but certainly doable. Tolle Gesellschaft. #2. 03-09-2020 W/ Lana. 3+38 up. Tons of snow and terrible conditions on the descent (postholing).

East and West Peak  Sucess!

Drove up the Jacob's City road out of Stockton until I reached consistent snow at about 6,650'. From this point I hiked up the road about 5 miles to the saddle between the east summit and the west summit. From there I hit the west summit first and then the east one. All said and done from where I parked it was about a 13.5 mile hike, but if you are able to drive to the pass you could shave 10 miles off of that and still hit both peaks.

Nice short hike!  Sucess!

Climbed from the Jacob City Road up to Bald Mountain West then on to Bald Mountain East and Sharp Peak! Amazing views of Rush Valley from the top! Also came back and did Dry Mountain at a later date. Steep and no trail but a very unique and fun hike from Ophir!

Quiet Hike  Sucess!

Climbed up using the Jacob City road. Also did Sharp Peak. About a foot of snow on the saddle between Bald and Sharp. Did East Bald Mountain in December 2010 via the same route

Jacob City Trail Route  Sucess!

Followed Jacob City Trail up in my truck to old mining flat. Parked there, and followed ATV road north, to more difficult section of Jacob City Trail. Went around the south side to Chandler Peak, then north up the ridge to twin peaks of Sharp Mountain, although marker at top says "Bald Mountain". Nice weather station on top. Smaller peak much more rocky than higher summit. Pleasant hike, saw no one, but 2 hunters. Had the whole mountain to myself. Beautiful day.

Route: Serviceberry Canyon / East Ridge  Sucess!

Summit is a great location for views of the Stansbury Mountains and the major peaks of the Oquirrhs. As commented by Sean and Walter, the clouds denied us our view west, but the day was fun with some good powder pockets on the southeast face.

From Chandler Pass via Serviceberry Canyon  Sucess!

2 for 2 now for Walter, Matt, and me, at being socked in on Oquirrh summits, only this time the peak was under blue sky almost the entire time that we were NOT on top. If we'd had ski crampons, we'd have easily beat the clouds to the top, though. We got great views to the north through south on the ascent, but were denied the expectedly-grand west view on the summit. Skied the southeast face. The snow was not what we hoped as far as ski conditions, so we gave up on extra laps, but it was a beautiful day and was great to get out and explore and see no other people.

On Skis  Sucess!

Via Serviceberry Canyon with Sean Peckham, and Marauders. The new snow from earlier in the week and from the night before was not well bonded to the crust making the skinning very diffcult, we really should have had ski crampons.
