Perfect conditions early in the morning. Made it to the ski hut by 6:15am. Climb took around an hour and a half. Slushy on the way down the bowl trail.
Climbed Jesayno chute, for the 5th time up the bowl this amazing winter.
SoCal had an amazing winter this year. Got to explore many of the chutes this year. Jesayno was a good climb.

Aimed for saddle between Baldy and Harwood
Snow conditions were great, I was at the bottom of bowl by 6am. Did a mix of snow and scree scrambling sticking to the path of least steepness. Came up on the saddle between Harwood and Baldy. This is probably the easiest route up, it gets much steeper in the middle parts of the bowl.

Excellent access for snowboarding
Faster and more fun than summer ascents; Second time this winter; the most convenient mountain route to shred in SoCal (though not the best- see san J's Snow Creek Couloir). TR on triple crown snowboarding here: http://pullharder.org/2011/04/13/the-socal-triple-crown-shredding-the-range-highpoints/

Baldy bowl is a fun place to practice mountaineering skills.

Nice conditions
Skinned up the center of the bowl alongside 30+ new friends on a beautiful New Years Day. Big mistake to ski back down the S ridge, nothing but wind-swept breakable crust.

From Manker to Hut lots of traffic. Deviated from hut trail and went straight up bowl. Wonderful trip.

Nice day, good snow, but very windy once we crested the top ridge prior to the last slope to the summit.

Another fun day on Baldy
Climbed one of the chutes in the bowl with a group of good friends that "forjan" put together. Some went up the main trail and some up the bowl. We came down the devil's backbone. Bypassed the "crux" by climbing up to the ridge proper of the backbone then descending the ridge all the way. Very hard snow conditions in the upper bowl. All in all a great day in the mountains with great friends!

fun day with the socal crew
Thanks to Miguel for rounding up the SoCal mountaineering crew (I tagged along only as a pseudo mountaineer). Great group and other than the windy summit, a pleasant day.

I have done this route 5 times. Easier with snow on the route. I hate scree slopes.

Windy at the Summit
Went up with Aaron and Alex. Aaron gets the kudos for braking trail up the snow slog. Cold and blowin 30+ at the summit, my 2nd baldy summit. My winter ascent!
UPDATE- Ski Descent, sort of...
1-24-10 With Aaron again, we skied the Bowl. Fell numerous times, lucky I got out unscathed!

lessons learned
First ascent of bowl, solo. Got a late start and had some trouble with my crampons, wound up hitting the top near sunset, learning a valuable lesson about climbing in the dark as I got a little lost on the way down. Made it out eventually, though, thanks in part to directions from a helpful snowmobile mechanic. Will be sure to head up earlier next time.
