3rd of four  Sucess!

No summit marker for this one so I probably hit the summit around an hour after I left the Mt. Mitchell parking lot.

Summit?  Sucess!

Not sure if we were on summit or not - could not find any marker, sign or plaque. Only one view to the East nearby.

One-way

My first hike. I did a point-to-point, finishing atop Mt. Mitchell. At that time I was not yet afflicted with peak-bagger's disease, so I don't know if I made sure to stand on the high point.

Started at the Visitor's center and took the Old Mt. Mitchell trail to the summit, and then on to Mt. Craig, Big Tom, Balsam Cone, and Cattail Pk., and back the same way, plus the nature trail, for 3116' of gain.

Great day  Sucess!

Black Mountain to Mt Mitchell then on to Mount Craig - 6647', Big Tom - 6580', Balsam Cone 6596', and Cattail Peak 6584'. About a 16 mile day. It was muddy and cloudy, but not cold.

The Easy Way Too...  Sucess!

Climbed this with my dog "Bear" on a 4-mile jaunt from Mount Mitchell. Hope to come back and hike the whole Black Mountain crest when I have a weekend. Sunny and cool.

The Easy Way...  Sucess!

Climbed from the Deep Gap Trailhead near Mt. Mitchell. The trail was muddy with plenty of slick rocks due to all the recent rain. We had partially clear skies to Mt. Craig and then the low lying clouds took over so we decided to shorten our day and stopped shortly after Balsam Cone.

Via Deep Gap Trail  Sucess!

We enjoyed this peak - twice, because we went from Mt. Mitchell, down to Cattail Peak, and back. We loved the views, the moisture of the rain forest, the steep trail...all of it was fantastic. And...we saw only ONE person on this trail this entire day...amazing!

Partner: Husband.

misty day

Crossed (rain, mist and sleet) on my loop---12 hrs. 1 hr to Horse Rock trail, then up, over to the Bowlen's Creek end of Ridge Crest Trail, turned and went to Mitchell, before coming back to Deep Gap, down most of Colbert's Ridge, and then 'bushwack' to Locust Creek and White Oak Creek.
---From Winter Star, the Mitchell side of the Ridge Crest Trail is always less weather friendly during the winter and early spring.
