Been out to Castle peak many times. Finally got around to visiting this peak.

Dayhike with Sean & Asaka. Bagged Basin then Castle then Andesite.

Summited this peak as part of Lost and Found 30K race

I ran the Lost and Found 30K "running" race that started at Soda Springs Ski Area, went out to Summit Lake, then back to Castle Pass trail and headed out to summit of Basin, and then back to Soda Springs (coming close to Andesite Peak on the way back). It was a very tough race.

Castle Peak Trailhead

Basin Peak via Castle Valley Trailhead and Castle Pass. Walked along the ridge between Castle and Basin Peak. Party of 2. 4 miles and 1 hour 47 minutes to the summit. Weather was sunny with no cloud coverage and mild winds and mild Fall temps. 1,900 ft elevation gain.

With Castle

From Castle Peak we saw a forest fire start--I think near Kyburz. Eek! We traversed from Castle to Basin, then took a cross country route down Basin and eventually met back up with the trail.

Excellent use trail along the ridge. No views due to fog.

From Castle

First hiked up Castle Peak and then headed over to Basin Peak. Nice walk along the easy ridge with good views. Tagged Andesite on the way out. 9.4 miles round trip with 2850 feet of gain.

Ran Basin Peak

Ran most of the way to Basin Peak until the real hiking started. I couldn't take all trail due to snow, so had to bushwhack a bit. Then went to the summit of Castle Peak

Conditions are nice

Longer trip than we were expecting from the snopark but conditions are good. Some cornices forming but otherwise the snow pack seems purty stable. Used traction but no snowshoes needed.

Castle/Basin

After first big winter storm hit a few days ago I wanted to get out in some winter conditions, first going up the 3 towers on Castle then over to Basin. Foolishly left snowshoes at home thinking the snow wasn't deep enough yet...that's how it can take over 7 hours to cover 9 miles... Trip Report

With Castle Peak on Skis

Skinned up Castle Peak, traversed over to Basin, then skied down into Round Valley. It was an awesome day full of great snow! Check out the trip report:
