Overview


Bearhead Mountain, while often overlooked, offers great views into the convergence of the Firebrand Pass and Two Medicine Areas. It is often achieved as part of the DeSanto Pass traverse from Firebrand Pass to Two Medicine.

Getting There

Firebrand To Desanto Pass:

The Lubec Lake trailhead is located between East Glacier and Marias Pass along US Highway 2 by mile marker #203. Follow signs to firebrand pass to access off-trail routes


Two Medicine Route: 

Use the Scenic Point Trailhead in Two Medicine.

Route

Firebrand To Desanto Pass Class II (3)

Follow the Firebrand Pass trail to Firebrand Pass. After climbing Red Crow Mountian, drop down to the saddle above Lena Lake and follow a goat trail to Desanto Pass. Ascend the ridge to the summit.

Return Route

Lena Lake

After returning to the saddle between Red Crow and Bearhead, it is possible to drop down to Lena Lake. A rewarding trip around the lake will reveal a hard-to-find game trail that will lead back to the Firebrand Pass trail. The downloadable .gpx file featured in this page's description shows our Glacier Mountaineering Society route from Lena Lake back to the Firebrand Trail.
