Gorgeous  Sucess!

Four times on it, only got a view this day! Winter really does make it a more interesting prospect. Despite the early start, it was worth it to have the skies clear on the descent to see the highlands in their glory.

Bad weather  Sucess!

Climbed with sierramtngoat. We were supposed to do a traverse on the arete, but the low clouds and wind made that a poor choice. So we stuck to the main route.

Three Peaks charity hike  Sucess!

Did this as part of a 3 Peaks charity challenge. We started around 0100 in the morning. Long, steep slog to the summit, but there were some gorgeous views of the Highlands from its slopes.

Ben Nevis  Sucess!

Stayed in the hostel at the trailhead. Had beautiful sunny weather for the hike to the summit, unusual for Scotland. Beautiful country, memorable experience.

Got lucky  Sucess!

Woke up to a beautiful sunny day and my Ben Nevis hike was planned in May!! Could not have been luckier. A little fog rolled across the summit from time to time but otherwise spectacular views in all directions.

Ben Nevis - Mountain track

Final mountain of the week. My third mountain, Ben Nevis via the mountain track. Did this one alone as the guided group was cancelled the day before. A lot of fun.

Tried the arete, but it was far scarier than expected. Quite an easy walk up via the standard route. Enjoyed the trip.

2450 meters of ascent  Sucess!

Attempted to scale the Ben via CMD Arete first but failed high on Carn Mor Dearg thanks to treacherous snow fields and zero visibility. A plod up the Mountain Track set the record straight but at a cost: My total ascent on this day added up to 2450 meters. That's if I had climbed the Ben two times back to back. It sure felt like it.

Had a great time, this was the first time up Ben, a few years later a few friends and I did a summer day hike up. Always a great time in Ft William.

Low clouds and rain  Sucess!

From the very start, it was a most unpromising day. But I had flown in from Spain to climb Ben Nevis, and finally reached the summit starting from the Glen Nevis visitor center with my friend Juan. We used the Mountain Path up to Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe, but after that we entered the Allt a'Mhuilinn valley to reach the CIC hut and the CMD arĂȘte from Coire Leis. This last section is not really advisable, but we chose it when strong winds kept us back from the CMD... and we just didn't feel in the mood to turn back and re-join the Mountain Path.
In the end, summit without any sights and lots of clothing to dry

Re: Low clouds and rain

Hi Eza,
not quite as warm as your home Pyrenees I bet.
We're not going to Benasque this year but up to the Highlands again probably to do Suilven and Ben More and maybe back to An Teallach.
cheers Johnnie
