2 Summer & a Winter ascent
Climbed in the extraordinary conditions of a very cold snap in Jan 1981 - the week that temperatures were recorded down to minus 27C not far away in the highlands. Then summer ascents at approximately decade intervals.
Went up the lost valley. Climbed the sgreamhach as well. Couldn't see much. I guess this was classic Scotland weather

Height of the week
With Ken, we followed the well marked path up Coire Gabhail from the Glencoe road until we got to the boulders but failed to cross the allt and after stumbling through jungle for a while we realised it. After crossing the path was clear and we followed easily until the screes above the plateau (155 544) where due to stonefalls the path was obscured. After flogging up the screes for a while we eventually found the path again and soon reached the bealach. We had our moment of doubt on reaching the summit as we saw another top to the northwest (Johnnie having left the map behind!). However Ken was sure that the connecting ridge to Stob Coire nan Lochan clearly proved that we were at the highest point of Argyle.

Covered in cloud
Started off up Coire nan Lochan at 6:30am on a beautiful early morning to avoid the predicted afternoon rain. By the time we had reached the top of Stob Coire nan Lochan the cloud had covered us. Along the south west ridge to Bidean nam Bian and then south-east to Stob Coire Sgreamhach. Still totally covered in cloud. Descended into Coire Gabhail and once about half way down turned to see the cloud had lifted off from the peaks. Didn't end up raining in Glencoe until about 7pm that night. Damn that weather forecast!!! Still, a fantastic day on Glencoe's finest.
My girlfriend's first major hill. Climbed on a lovely sumnny august day. Started at the farm, up the north side of the hill and along the ridge to Stob Coire nan Lochan. A lovely hill and a great day out.
When up via the right hand side of the butress, and then from the peak went to the adjacent munro. Descent via coire an gabhail. Absolutely great , if only we could have had less cloud.......
Route Climbed: Via Hidden Valley and Broad Gully. Date Climbed: 05/04/05
We went up during sunny snowy spells. Had fresh snow up to 8 inches drifts to the knee, from 700m. The gully was easy but great fun. A fantastic trip out amungst some of the finest scenery around. Nigel, Hamish and Myself .
Route Climbed: Up through Coire Gahhail descent west of Stob Coire nam Beith Date Climbed: September 2003
One of four Americans who scrambled up this Mt. became somewhat lost along the ridge due to heavy cloud cover and eventually made a decent down and past the west bank of Loch Achtriochtan before a 5 kilometer hike along the road back to the car. Yet, this remains one of my favorite hikes of all time - loved the scenery and challenge of the area. Will post a few pics after I scan them.

A monster alpine day out in Glencoe. Perfect alpine weather, mint gulley conditions in Broad Gully on stob coire nan lochan to summit then fantastic ridge walk to headwall of Lost Valley . Climbing team of Peter 'the lion' Jackson; Alastiar 'two axes' Williamson and Mark 'Lord Champagne' Radford.
Route Climbed: Coire nam Beith to Lost Valley Date Climbed: 4 July 2003
Perfect summer day, views in all directions, I'm led to believe this is not common in these parts. Very pleasant hike up the Coire nam Beith to Stob Coire nam Beith, and then a clear summit on Bidean nam Bian. Dashed up Stob Coire Sgreamhach before heading down the Lost Valley. This place is magical, the mountains feel so much bigger than they actually are!
Being a visitor, this was a great introduction to the Scottish mountains.
Route Climbed: From Glen Etive via Stob Coire Sgreamhach Date Climbed: 19th Feb 2000
Due to lots of fresh snow we decided it would be a bad idea to be on the steep northern slopes such as that which overlooks the "Lost Valley", so we approached from Glen Etive instead. This is a relentless and not particularly pleasant way up (steep), but does mean you have an excellent view down the glen to Ben Starav. Went up to Stob Coire Sgreamhach, then along the ridge to Bidean. Mostly straightforward except for one or two rocky bits. Main difficulty was the fact that the otherwise soft snow had been compacted into ice along the ridge by other walkers! Returned more or less the same way. Excellent weather, warm and sunny. Wonderful viewpoint! One of the most interesting mountains in Scotland.
