Sweet Trip  Sucess!

Combined backpacking/climbing trip with Tower Peak as the ultimate destination. Fires burning in Hetch Hetchy pretty much trashed the views.

Part of a 50-mile weeklong  Sucess!

Climbed this peak as part of our route on a 50-mile loop backpacking trip through Emigrant Wilderness. Very nice veiws. Camped at High Emigrant lake (chilly night!!) and climbed up and over early in the morning.

Route Climbed: the trail Date Climbed: A day in August, and a day after that  Sucess!

Backpacked over with my friend, then went back up the next day going the other way. Great views of course, but I somehow miss the rugged granite and sharp ridges of the south.

Route Climbed: South to North Date Climbed: July 5, 2005  Sucess!

The south slope was mostly snow free except for the bottom, but the north was completely covered in suncups.

Route Climbed: Horse Meadow Road Date Climbed: 3-Jul-2004  Sucess!

Part of a loop backpack out of Kennedy Meadows. Came up Kennedy Canyon from Kennedy Lake and then ascended Big Sam via Horse Meadow Road. The snowfield was still present, and I opted to scree scramble around it rather than risk a traversal.

Route Climbed: High Emigrant Lake up / Kennedy Lake down Date Climbed: June 1997  Sucess!

Climbed Big Sam on the way to Kennedy Lake from Emigrant Meadow Lake. It was a heavy snow fall that year. Emigrant Lake & Emigrant Meadow Lake were both 50% frozen. High Emigrant Lake was completely frozen. The skies were crystal clear the day we climbed Big Sam, but it was freezing and blowing about 50 MPH on the summit.

We encountered heavy snow on the descent into the bowl just north of the summit. That was fun. However a little further below there were 2 snow/ice field crossings with exposure that stretched the limit of my risk tolerence.

Route Climbed: Up South slope, down North Date Climbed: July 28, 2000  Sucess!

We reached this on the second to last day of a 50 mile backpacking trip that started at Crabtree. I'm glad we did the ascent in the morning. This peak has some of the best views around.
