My first hike. I did a point-to-point, finishing atop Mt. Mitchell. At that time I was not yet afflicted with peak-bagger's disease, so I don't know if I made sure to stand on the high point.

Started at the Visitor's center and took the Old Mt. Mitchell trail to the summit, and then on to Mt. Craig, Big Tom, Balsam Cone, and Cattail Pk., and back the same way, plus the nature trail, for 3116' of gain.

Almost wish we didn't stop at this one
Kinda feel like we should have done the rest of the range since we put so much energy into getting there. But it had already been a pretty long day and we had to get all the way back down Mitchell and be ready for the Smokey's the next day.

2nd birthday in a row spent here on the East Coast hiking the Appalachians. Loving this tradition. Loved the story of Thomas "Big Tom" Wilson and how he found the body of Elisha Mitchell. Great views from this peak if you venture off the main trail a little.

great scenery
Drove to the top of Mitchell with "the old folks" and my brother. Frost in the trees made an awesome scenery. Hiked to Mt. Craig and Big Tom and back.
