Typically crowded Sunday climb. Weather was beautiful. Lots of people climbing the cliffs of the gorge on both the VA and MD sides.

Fun scramble
Took the kids and my 81 yr old dad. Some of the weathered rock was a bit slick given recent rain, but the kids declared it their favorite hike to date (which is high praise considering that we live in CA and they have done some good hikes in Yosemite and the High Sierra).
I know I did this back in the 90s at least once...

Perfect hike on a perfect day
First good weather day after the metro area's huge 2 day record rainfalls. Not only was the hiking great although the trail got a bit busy by afternoon but views of the river were unbelievable! The water was rushing through the gorge at amazing speed and kayakers were ferrying across the river as well as many climbers strutting their stuff on the rock faces in front of the onlooking hikers and sightseers.
This was my first time on the BGT (Section A) and though my energy and legs held up fine I just don't have the confidence to fly across the sharp ridges or boulder hop anymore, especially when the narrow ledge you are jumping down to has an edge which drops 20 or so feet straight down into the river! So I chose to do a number of butt-slides to get where I wanted to land. It is probably better to hike Section A from the north to south direction especially the one big traverse. And overall, for an in-shape, best weight in years, non-climbing 61 year old several of the stretches on this trail were a tough scramble.
Oh, and I think those angled boulders were really hard too for all those guys who ended up carrying their unhappy 60 pound dogs!
I'll be posting my images later including some of the river.

Good DC cardio
This is a nice trail for a quick hike. If I have nothing better to do with a few hours I'll bike in and lock the bike to the horse holders (since ive never seen them used), do a few miles and bike back out.

Summit Log?I came here many times when I lived in Baltimore. Fun scrambling and worth the drive to help forget city life.

CrowdedLabor Day wknd. Lots and lots of people. Good trail for kids 7+. They love the scrambling. Little kids don't hold up too well.
