Bisti Wilderness - the ancient mariner

Bisti Wilderness - the ancient mariner

An ancient mariner looks out to the sea that is no more.

I don't know if this rock formation is named, so I just call it "the ancient mariner." It certainly reminded me of a lonely sailor looking out at a sailboat on the horizon.

(Interestingly, this area of New Mexico lies along or near the western shoreline of an ancient sea, called the Western Interior Seaway, that existed about 70 million years ago. Coincidently, the rock formation "sailor" that is shown appears to be looking east at the "sailboat" which would be in the appropriate direction for that sea.)

Circus Peak

...or a sea lion balancing a ball on his nose?

But I like your name more.
