I'm going to use the Sierra Club guideline that summit blocks are optional... since I stopped 20 feet from the top due to realizing that coming back down the narrow ledge-steps would be too risky in my solo, tired state. Burro Lake was absolutely incredible to behold, though. Went on to summit Peak 11,568.
Ridge traverse with Eric Su and Mason.
Following the boring slog to Excelsior and Slate Ridge, a Class 3 climb up the south face kept me interested - best peak of the day. Hit up a snowfield off Dunderberg later to complete my 12-month ski challenge - fun day.
I climbed both ears, after climbing nearby Peak 11568. It seemed to me that the western ear is higher. I enjoyed scanning the views up there.
Wonderful hike from Virginia Lakes to Black Cat Peak to Summit Lake and then Peak 11,568.
Short side trip on the way back down from Excelsior.
Pics and commentary are here.
Climbed after Excelsior Mountain.
It was 108 degrees in Bishop on this day!
