Seventy four minutes to the top on a warm day. Lake George was glittering in the sun down below and the wind turbine was making a racket when the wind rose above 15 mph.
A beautiful fall day on Black Mountain, with leaves of orange, red, yellow, etc.
Did the 7.5 mile loop hike on a cool, crisp morning. Not many views on the way up, but awesome views of Lake George from the open rocks at the summit. The tower isn't climbable, but not needed to enjoy the views. Took the longer trail down the back side and trail ran the majority of it. Some more nice scenery along the way. Fire tower #2 of 4 of the day for me.
Nice hike with great views. Not too challenging. Tried to fish Lapland Pond, but not much doing. Nice lean-to set up.
Be wary: if you summit from the main summit trail, and want to go back down the Lapland Pond trail, the trail is unmarked and covered by bushes. There is no trail marker for approximately .5 mile.
Unfortunately, we hiked on a rainy, foggy day so visibility at the summit was virtually nil.
Hiked it again on a nicer day and the views of Lake George were phenomenal.
want to come back and do the loop
No access to the fire tower on the summit, but great views from the summit ledges of Lake George.
A quick hike. Did not do the loop, rather went up and back via the same route. Lake George traffic on Labor Day sucks pretty bad...
Nice loop trail..really liked lapland pond.went back a few times,,even snow shoeing
Nice little hill was part of the tour of the black mountains we did with my High school outting club. There was lots of snow near the summit and we did alot of postholing for the last 200m if memory serves me right.
Started at 5:30 in the morning and scrambled to the top with my dog. Was very peaceful and quiet. My dog got pocupined in the parking lot at the end of the day. Made for an interesting day with the plyers. Otherwise very enjoyable. Cheers William Marler
