From Foothill Community College.
Only hike of some distance during my peakbagging romp from SF to Mt Bielewski. Glorious weather for February and a nice relaxing hike!
Nice 17 mile round trip hike in Rancho San Antonio with a side trip to the summit of Black Mountain.
Lucky to find a parking space at the tiny Rhus Ridge Trailhead. Pleasant meandering hike to the (crowded) summit on a somewhat hot day. Nice views.
I'm glad I was successful, because this park is way too crowded for me. I was lucky to find a parking spot at sunrise- 6:45am. No bathrooms at trailhead. No privacy along the trail. Creativity is obligatory.
Up via PG & E trail; down via Upper and Lower Meadows Trails. Outstanding views of the southern Bay Area.
Hiked from Rhus Ridge Trailhead to the peak after work in evening. Nice evening view of the bay.
Good Peak for Afterwork Hikes
My final peak to complete the "Everest by the Bay" list - partly cloudy at bottom, misty near 2,000 feet, and moderate rain on summit. Trip report is HERE
My first time backpacking when I was only 12 years old. Great fun!
It was a nice hike on a moist, cloudy day. (Up on Rhus ridge and black mountain trail, down on the quarry trail, upper meadow trail, etc.)
My favorite local mountain. Did it the first time in Mar 2007 during a Geocaching challenge http://coord.info/GCT32Y . Been back many times, including by bike up Montebello Rd from teh quarry and by hiking from Rhus Rodge
have done a few times, good workout from Rhus Ridge rd. best workout as a 1 hr trail run. this time i dropped straight down southwest from the summit on really steep terrain for a little cross country workout.
27 Mile version. Photos & Info
I've been up here more times than I can count but I'm pretty sure this is the date of my first summit. Gotta log it...
Have done this many times, most recently with my older son. The peak is just the highest bump on a ridge, but the hike from Rhus ridge makes for a long, beautiful workout run. Rhus ridge parking is very small; we had to park at Foothill college about a mile away.
Hiked it around summer solstice after a work day in Los Altos. Just did it again 10 years later. June 13, '11 (after a work day in Los Altos.)
From Rhus Ridge TH, roughly 3hr round trip. Will be training here for years to come.
Came from the Monte Bello trailhead. It was pretty crowded for the middle of winter. It's a good way to start a morning, especially in the winter when everything is moist. Good views of the Diablo range and the south bay. Did some other hills in the area before I got rained on.
Apparently we reached the top, but it was more of a bump.
fun hike, a good trail to train on, Monte Bello just takes a little longer to get to than the other hiking areas in the Santa Cruz mountains.
