AT Section Hike
We stayed on the AT so didn't touch the actual summit. Man, what a view out over the rockslide section. We were hiking southbound which was a gentle slope ...but down the other side was plenty steep and long to Blackrock Gap

Blackrock
Awesome little hike with a bang for your buck. Not too crowded, great views, and a cool boulderfield atop the summit.

Another Quick Stop at Blackrock
Hiked to my favorite place in the southern district of Shenandoah National Park, Black Rock, after hiking Humpback Rocks and Turk Mt.

Trayfoot/Paine Run loop
I've climbed up Black Rock's boulders many times. This time, I stopped at Black Rock before I hiked the Trayfoot and Paine Run loop.

Third and last mountain of the day
Just a quick jaunt to play on the rock pile before a thunderstorm rolled through the area. Any chance of going to Trayfoot Mountain will have to wait until next time.
Did this combo with my dog, Athena. Blackrock was a fun stop on the way to and from the summit of Trayfoot.

Snowy, Windy
I started from the Blackrock Summit parking area, which is not really fair. But I made up for it by then going nearby Treyfoot, and then descending all the way down to the Paine Run trail and going all the way up back to Blackrock. My butt was well kicked. Saw a bear afterward.

Stormy day
It was a fun little hike. I made it to the top only to find high winds and thunder rolling in. I got out of there ASAP!

Blackrock finished up a beautiful three day backcountry trip where we traversed Austin Mountain and climbed Furnace and Trayfoot Mountain as well. We watched a huge thunderstorm building while on the summit. The views were spectacular.
